Sick leave certificate
For time off work or university when you are unwell. A general medical certificate is requested through this same Sick Leave option.
People in Vietnam can request an online sick leave certificate from DrCertificate without leaving home. An independent certified doctor reviews every request after a digital chat consultation.
Issue is never automatic.
The doctor decides whether a certificate is appropriate, based on the information you share. DrCertificate is an online platform that connects people in 10 South East Asian countries, Vietnam included, with independent doctors who hold an MBBS, MD or MS. Start with the online form.
Yes. Anyone in Vietnam aged 16 or over can request an online sick leave certificate from DrCertificate. You fill in an online form, pay through Stripe, and an independent certified doctor reviews your request in a digital chat. If the doctor approves it, the certificate arrives as a PDF by email. The service suits non emergency situations only.
Workers, students and travellers in Vietnam are the people most often asked for a medical certificate. An employer may want a note after a sick day, a university may want one for a missed exam, and a traveller may need proof of fitness, or of unfitness, before a flight.
Weather plays a part.
The rainy season brings a rise in fevers and stomach bugs, and dengue is a familiar worry in the wetter months. Hanoi's cool, damp winter brings its share of colds and flu. A person in bed with a high temperature rarely wants to sit in a clinic queue for a note.
Office staff in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, factory workers and university students all face the same problem when a manager or lecturer asks for paperwork.
Travel is the other common trigger. Visitors and expats passing through Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai or Da Nang airport can fall ill right before a flight and need a document for the airline.
An online request lets a person in any of these situations ask a doctor from a phone. Whether the employer, school or airline accepts the certificate is their decision. Check with them first.
Four options appear on the DrCertificate application form
The DrCertificate application form shows four options: Sick Leave, Unfit to Travel, Work From Home and Medical Fitness. Pick the one that matches what your employer, school or airline asked for.
For time off work or university when you are unwell. A general medical certificate is requested through this same Sick Leave option.
For days when you can still work but a doctor agrees you should stay home while unwell.
For proof of good health for a job, course or sport. Sports fitness, fit to fly and fit to work requests all use this option.
For when a doctor finds you should not fly and you need to show the airline.
Getting a medical certificate online in Vietnam takes four steps, all done on a phone or computer. There are no video or in person consultations at any point.

Enter your details, choose the certificate option and describe your symptoms and the dates you need.
Payment is taken through Stripe before the review starts. The fee is non refundable.
An independent certified doctor reviews your request in a digital chat and may ask follow up questions.
If the doctor approves the request, the certificate arrives as a PDF by email. If the doctor declines, no certificate is issued.
You'll continue on the secure DrCertificate application form.
Have your personal details, a working email address, the reason and dates for the certificate, and any wording your organisation asked for. Ready answers keep the review quick.
Your name must match your ID. A mismatch is one of the reasons doctors decline requests.
Full name as shown on your ID, date of birth and an email address you can open right away.
Why you need the certificate and the exact days it should cover.
Any format your employer, school or airline asked for.
When symptoms began, how they affect you, and any existing medical records.
The doctor reads your form, checks that your details and symptoms fit together, and decides whether a certificate is appropriate. Paying for the review does not guarantee a certificate.
The doctor looks at the reason you gave, when your symptoms started, the dates requested and any records you shared. If something is unclear, the doctor can ask follow up questions in the chat.
Give accurate answers.
DrCertificate does not diagnose, treat or prescribe. The platform connects you with an independent doctor, and that doctor alone makes the call. A certificate is issued only when the doctor finds it appropriate for your situation. The period it covers is a medical judgement based on what you describe, so the doctor may approve fewer days than you asked for or none at all.
If the doctor declines, no certificate is issued and the payment is not refunded. Doctors decline about 2% of requests.
The usual reasons are wrong details, like a name that does not match the ID, or symptoms and details that do not fit together. Refunds apply only to a verified technical fault reported within 24 hours.
If you still need a note, visit a local clinic or hospital in Vietnam in person. For questions about your request, email care@drcertificate.com.
The fee for an online sick leave certificate in Vietnam is shown on the form before you pay. DrCertificate sets fees by country, and the table lists the confirmed examples.
The fee covers the doctor's review and, if approved, the PDF certificate by email. Payment goes through Stripe.
The fee is non refundable, including when the doctor declines.

A typical request takes about 30 minutes. Missing details, a name that does not match your ID or follow up questions from the doctor can slow that down.
Fitness cases are reviewed 9 am to 9 pm IST Monday to Saturday and 10 am to 8 pm IST on Sunday. Vietnam is 90 minutes ahead of IST.
| Day | Fitness case hours, IST | Same hours, Vietnam time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday to Saturday | 9 am to 9 pm | 10:30 am to 10:30 pm |
| Sunday | 10 am to 8 pm | 11:30 am to 9:30 pm |
Acceptance is decided by the organisation receiving the certificate, not by DrCertificate. Ask your employer, school, airline or sports body whether they take online medical notes before you apply.
Vietnamese law sets formal rules for sickness benefit. Article 43 of the Law on Social Insurance 41/2024/QH15 allows up to 30 working days a year in normal working conditions with under 15 years of contributions, 40 days with 15 to under 30 years, and 60 days with 30 years or more.
Article 47 lists a certificate of leave for social insurance among the outpatient claim documents, and the Minister of Health sets its form, procedure and issuing authority. Article 48 requires the employee to hand the claim file to the employer no later than 45 days after returning to work.
DrCertificate certificates must not be used for insurance, so they are not a substitute for that social insurance document.
Airlines set their own fit to fly and unfit to fly rules, and those can differ from one carrier to the next.
An online certificate is not right for emergencies, legal matters or insurance. In an emergency in Vietnam, call 115 for an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital.
DrCertificate certificates are not for legal purposes, must not be used for insurance claims and are not for submission in India. Applicants must be 16 or older.
Visit a clinic or hospital in person if symptoms are severe or getting worse, if you need tests or treatment, or if you need a prescription. The platform does not diagnose, treat or prescribe.
DrCertificate keeps its rules visible, so you know what to expect before you pay.
Every request is read by a doctor who can say no.
All doctors on the platform are registered with a medical council and hold an MBBS, MD or MS.
In most South East Asian countries, sick leave and work from home notes go up to 7 days for generic symptoms, and fitness notes are generally valid for 30 days.
Doctors decline about 2% of requests, when the name and ID do not match or when symptoms and details are inconsistent.
Sports fitness, fit to fly and fit to work requests use the Medical Fitness option. A general medical certificate uses the Sick Leave option.
Customers are encouraged to check that the place of submission accepts online medical notes.
No. DrCertificate works through an online form and a digital chat with an independent doctor, with no video or in person consultations. If the doctor feels your situation needs a physical examination, the right step is a visit to a local clinic or hospital in Vietnam.
The doctor decides whether a certificate can cover past dates. Tell the doctor accurately when your symptoms began and which days you missed. The doctor then judges what the information supports, and the request can be declined if the dates and details do not fit together.
Your form details go to the doctor reviewing your request, and your payment is handled by Stripe. The doctor uses your information to decide whether to issue a certificate. For full details on how your data is stored and protected, email care@drcertificate.com before you apply.
Email care@drcertificate.com for help with a request. Include your name and the email address used on the form so support can find it. The platform is operated by Health Venture OU, KMC Armstrong Corporate Center, H.V. Dela Costa, Salcedo Village, Makati City, 1227 Metro Manila, Philippines.
